Nature experience – Holiday on a beekeeping farm
Nature experience – Holiday on a beekeeping farm
Our organic apiary is home to 250 bee colonies, which pollinate the flowers from an altitude of 600 metres in the Gailtal valley up to 2000 metres in the Nockberge mountains and produce delicious honey from the nectar of the flowers. Our bees provide us with dark, strong and slightly malty forest honey from the Gailtal forests, sweet-smelling, flowery alpine rose honey from the mountains, which leaves a pleasantly sweet aftertaste, and extremely intense dandelion honey with an unforgettable tangy aftertaste.
Our honeys have also won many awards. Our forest honey from 2023 was awarded a gold medal at the organic Austrian fair in Wieselburg and our alpine rose honey won a silver medal.
Beekeeping taster session for holiday guests with product tasting
Our apiary is known for sharing knowledge. Beekeeper Arno is a certified “Wanderlehrer”, which is the name given to professional beekeepers in Austria who teach beekeeping outside of regular places of education. Bees have been his great passion since the age of eight. Arno gives beekeeping courses to aspiring beekeepers and also offers the popular “From the honeycomb to the jar” introductory course for guests visiting our region. Sessions are held twice a week from mid-May until mid-September.
During a morning at the open beehive, you can witness how the bees bring the nectar into the beehive and learn how delicious honey is made from it. Afterwards, fresh honey is extracted for you to taste. You can sample our forest, alpine rose and dandelion honey varieties as well as other bee products such as pollen, propolis, oxymel and a honey-flavoured liqueur called Bärenfang.
